“Open Source” web2school: WGS has decided to go the “Open Source” route with its web2school™ product. We are in the process of finalizing the licensing and cleaning up the source code with regards to copyrights and other legal issues. Once this is done, the source for the web2school modules will be available for downloading for free. Since this is a complicated endeavor which few companies have undertaken, we at WGS are taking the cautious approach to this transformation. We hope to complete this transformation and be “Open Sourced” by the beginning of the next school year. · Why are we doing this? - Web2school modular architecture fits with the ideology of Open-Source. - Uses open source technology like Java, MySQL, and Jasper Reports. - Extremely stable and mature product with an existing customer base lends credibility for Open-Source Software. - Provide more emphasis on what we do best: Customer Support and Value Added Services - Provides an alternative to other highly over-priced SIS systems in market. - Building a user community - Opens to new ideas and features - Future development of features and usability - Will be the only stable and full-featured SIS open source system · What does it mean for you? - No visible changes for existing users - Company you can still depend on to call for support - Bigger knowledgebase (wikipedia, blogs, user forms etc) to tap from. - Will bring about collaboration with other open-source software like Moodle etc. - Improved testing procedures to ensure stability during upgrades. - WGS certified Web2school Platform Recently, the NY state
education department has requested the schools in the state to submit a data
extract from their SIS system for the data warehouse and Statewide Unique
Student ID System. As is the norm here at Wicked Good Customer Support, we have
made this a very simple task for our school administrators so that they can
accomplish this easily. To that extent, we have created the necessary import
files for the categories needed for this extract as well the export template to
create the required CSV file. The most current program update will
provide this export feature. Click Here to view
the instructions for the export. The latest MEDMS changes (summer 2005) has been incorporated into the 1.60.9 release. For this you will need to add new categories, but as always we want make life easier for you and to that extent we have created the import files to add the necessary categories. Click Here to view
the instructions for the export. With the latest release (1.60.9 and above), we have now added the End-of-Year (EOY) and Beginning-of-Year (BOY) exports into our Advanced Custom Export feature.
